Authorities in Copiah County are searching for the person responsible for shooting and killing another person during an armed robbery.
The incident occurred Tuesday night at the Wesson Truck Stop at the intersection of Interstate 55 and Sylvarena Road. Police report that the suspect shot 60-year-old Vincent Ratliffe and carjacked his vehicle before robbing the convenience store.
The suspect then fled the scene in the unidentified victim’s vehicle with money that he had stolen from the store. Authorities later discovered that the suspect had ditched the car not far away from the crime scene.
Police are continuing to review video footage from the incident to find the person responsible. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained at the scene.
