An investigation has been launched after an officer-involved shooting in Clay County left one person injured.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the incident involving the Clay County Sheriff’s Office took place Friday after a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop, leading law enforcement on a brief chase before the driver got out on foot and fled on Landfield Road in West Point.
The driver was then shot by the deputy after the subject allegedly flashed a weapon. While the identity of the subject has not yet been released, they were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The deputy was unharmed during the incident.
