The Winston County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest, noting law enforcement was quickly dispatched to Nanih Waiya Attendance Center as the K-12 school was put on lockdown after the threat was made.

“Law enforcement responded immediately and the school was cleared by our Emergency Response Unit,” a statement from the Winston County Sheriff’s Department reads. “No one was hurt, no shots were fired, and the subject who made the threat was not on campus. The subject who made the threat is in custody. We will NOT take any threats to our schools lightly!!!!”

As of now, the identity of the suspect has not yet been released nor has their connection, if any, to Nanih Waiya Attendance Center. School officials have since confirmed that class schedules have resumed as normal.

This is the fourth school threat to happen in Mississippi this week, following instances in Jackson, Flowood, and Prentiss.
