JACKSON, Miss.–There was apparently more than one guy involved in the weekend murders of Laterry and Altira Smith and their son Jaidon. The MBI said early Thursday that a second man was arrested at his Jackson home late Wednesday night. His name: Cedric Mason, 30.
MBI Spokesman Warren Strain id not discuss details on what led them to Mason. But, a press release said that Mason is being charged with two counts of murder and two counts of kidnapping. Kidnapping is a charge that, so far, has not been pinned on the first man arrested, Timothy Burns.
Burns, meanwhile, has been charged with two counts of murder in Copiah County and a third charge may be added for Hinds County, which is where MBI investigators believe that the dad, Laterry Smith was killed. They believe that happened in Jackson on McDowell Rd. in a house there.
Strain said the D.A.s in both Hinds and Copiah counties were getting together to decide how best to prosecute the case since it happened in two counties.
