As construction continues in preparation for the state’s first Buc-ee’s, traffic jams and wrecks are becoming more common on I-10 at the Menge Avenue exit in Pass Christian.
On Monday morning, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) closed the right eastbound lane to allow crews to complete the bridge repair and inspection at the exit.
Unfortunately, there have since been multiple accidents just west of the road work, including one fatality. A Harrison County rescue squad vehicle was hit as it responded to the scene, but WLOX is reporting that the crew is okay.

Major delays continue in both the west and eastbound lanes. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
MDOT is in the process of rebuilding the interchange to make way for Buc-ee’s. It will take about 13 months to complete work on the highway, bridge, and ramps with ground to be broken on the 74,000-square-foot travel center this fall.
The eastbound lanes of I-10 are expected to reopen Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.
