A person is in custody after shots rang out near Meridian High School on Tuesday morning.
The school was placed on a temporary lockdown precautionarily but was later given the green light to resume operations as scheduled by Meridian Public School District campus police. Nobody on campus was reported injured from the incident.
As police investigated, it was discovered that a vehicle parked at the high school had been targeted for vandalism purposes. One person believed to be connected to the crime has been apprehended by law enforcement. The identity of the arrestee has not been released.
“We want to reassure parents and the community that students and staff are safe on campus,” Meridian Public School District Campus Police Chief Cornelius Parks said.
Police are continuing to search for an additional suspect who reportedly fled the crime scene on foot.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the shooting.
