The Ole Miss women’s basketball team’s historic NCAA Tournament run has come to an end following a 72-62 loss to Louisville in the Sweet 16.
A blow-for-blow fight took place between the Lady Rebels (25-9, 11-5 SEC) and Lady Cardinals (26-11, 12-6 ACC) in Seattle, Wash. Friday night with both teams leaving everything on the court.
Ole Miss started off on top, jumping out to a quick 9-3 lead, but the Lady Cardinals’ defensive adjustments gave Coach Yo’s team fits, forcing a scoring drought late in the first quarter. Ole Miss fought back to reclaim the lead late in the second half, but ultimately trailed 34-29 at halftime.
Despite persistent efforts to claw back into the game in the second half, the Lady Rebels could never regain the lead as Louisville seemed to have an answer for every Ole Miss run.
Marquesha Davis led the lady Rebels with 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Louisville’s standout guard Hailey Van Lith amassed 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the Cardinals’ win to advance to the Elite Eight.
