As the college football season nears, experts are predicting a big year for Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris following a stellar 2023 campaign.
Harris comes in as a second-team member of the preseason Associated Press All-America team. The Louisiana Tech transfer had an instant impact on the field in his first season with the Rebels, logging 985 yards and eight touchdowns — four of which were scored in his Ole Miss debut against Mercer — and helped lead the Rebels to the program’s first-ever 11-win season.
The Lafayette, La., native is expected to headline a stacked wide receivers room including Jordan Watkins, South Carolina transfer Antwan “Juice” Wells, Utah State transfer Micah Davis, and Ayden Williams, not to mention All-SEC tight end Caden Prieskorn as well as Virginia Tech transfer Dae’Quan Wright.
“It may sound strange, but if we were to vote on most improved players right now from last season, I would put Tre Harris in that group, which is saying a lot,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said of Harris during fall camp. “He’s just really had a great mindset all offseason … He has really pushed himself out there.”
Harris was also listed as a second-team member of the All-America list compiled by The Sporting News, though the publication’s founder, Bill Bender, admits he may ultimately regret not bumping up the pass catcher one level to the first team.
While Harris was the only Rebel featured among the top college football players on the AP’s preseason list, the news giant has high expectations for Lane Kiffin and company this year as Ole Miss is ranked No. 6 in its preseason top 25. No players from Mississippi State or Southern Miss cracked the list.
