Ole Miss knew after Saturday’s comeback win, it had the momentum in the series against Mississippi State. The Rebels wasted no time proving that on Sunday, striking early and often as they overwhelmed the Bulldogs in a run rule shortened 14-2 victory.

Ole Miss scored in each of the first three inning, then put up 3 runs apiece in the sixth and seventh to send the home crowd to the exits happy and early. The final blow was delivered by Will Furniss, who launched a three run home run into left field to finish the game off.

As good as the Rebels were at the plate, they were even better on the mound, as junior right hander Mason Nichols was nearly flawless, giving Ole Miss 6.1 innings, with only 2 runs (1 earned) and 4 strikeouts. Gunnar Dennis closed the game out, allowing one run in the final 1.2 innings. State threw 6 different arms including starter Evan Siary, five of whom gave up at least one earned run.
Ole Miss wins the SEC series against Mississippi State for the first time since 2015, and improved on the year to 20-16, 5-10 in the conference. The Bulldogs fall to 22-14, 7-8 overall in SEC play. The rivals will battle it out one more time this season at Trustmark Park in Pearl in the annual Governor’s Cup game.
