An Ole Miss student allegedly committed suicide on campus on Thursday night.
Sources told SuperTalk Mississippi News that an unidentified individual jumped from the top of the southeast side of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium into the Manning Center parking lot. The impact is reported to have killed the victim.
A large presence of law enforcement was spotted in that area around 9 p.m. after Ole Miss concluded a basketball game in the neighboring SJB Pavilion. An incident report from the University Police Department verifies the tragic occurrence.
Ole Miss media relations director Jacob Batte issued the following statement in response to the student’s death:
“Thursday evening, University Police responded to a report involving a student near Manning Way. The Coroner’s Office later confirmed the student had passed away. We are heartbroken at the sudden loss of this student, and we extend our condolences to their loved ones during this difficult time.”
Officials encourage campus community members affected by the incident to utilize the university’s counseling center and UMatter student support and advocacy center.
This is a developing story. More details will be provided when made available.
