For the second consecutive week, an Ole Miss football player has earned weekly conference honors.
Rebels’ safety Trey Washington was recognized as the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week coming off a stellar performance in the team’s 48-23 victory over Georgia Tech.
The Ole Miss defense bent during Saturday’s game, allowing 474 total yards — 307 of which came through the air. However, Washington’s career-high 10 tackles, two of which were for loss, and forced fumble ended up being the bright light that gave the offense opportunities to run away with the win.
Washington currently leads the Ole Miss defense with 20 tackles on the season, and his 6.7 tackles per game ranks 13th in the conference.
