Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart has been added to the Maxwell Trophy preseason watchlist ahead of the 2024 campaign.
First announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday, Dart is one of 80 players nationally on the club’s radar as one of the most outstanding college football players going into the season. Named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a former standout at Swarthmore College and renowned sportswriter, the award goes to the college football’s player of the year.
Dart enters his third year as Ole Miss’ signal-caller and is coming off the best season of his collegiate career. In 2023, Dart completed 65.1% of his passes for 3,364 yards and 23 touchdowns with just five picks. He also amassed 389 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground in Ole Miss’ first-ever 11-win season.
The Kaysville, Utah native ranked among the top quarterbacks in college football ranking in the top 20 nationally in the following categories:
- No. 8 in yards per attempt — 9.4-yard average
- No 10. in yards per completion — 14.4-yard average
- No. 16 in total offense — 288.7 yards per game
- No. 20 in total passing yards — 3,364
Entering his final season with the Rebels, Dart stands within striking distance of several program records. At the moment, he ranks third all-time in passing efficiency (153.0), third in yards per attempt (8.8), third in yards per completion (13.8), fourth in completion percentage (63.8), fifth in passing yards (6,338), fifth in total offense (7,341), tied for sixth in passing touchdowns (43), tied for sixth in 300-yard passing games (7), tied for sixth in total touchdowns responsible for (52), seventh in completions (459) and 10th in attempts (720).
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Tuesday, November 12, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled two weeks later. The winner of the award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 12. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on March 14, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Ga.
Ole Miss will begin its regular season against Furman on Saturday, August 31 at 6 p.m. central.
