OXFORD, Miss.- The University of Mississippi has officially announced that University of Kansas Provost Jeffery Vitter will be the new Chancellor.
The College Board trustees have voted and the official word came in Thursday afternoon after Vitter met with campus groups Wednesday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and then again in Oxford Thursday.
Vitter has been the clear front-runner since initial interviews. He says he hopes to start by February 1 and will spend more time on the University’s campus before that time.
WLBT reports that says that Vitter told the University if chosen he would focus on five areas, building academic excellence, international ties, and research efforts. He also plans to improve funding and diversity.
