OMAHA, Neb.- The NCAA Tournament field of 64 teams placed across sixteen regionals across America is where teams begin their journey to the College World Series. Life continues for the Ole Miss Rebels, who were sent home after a day one loss to Alabama in the SEC tournament. Their final record of 30-26 was enough to get them into a regional.
But their road back to the College World Series in Omaha, where they found themselves just a short year ago, looks to be a tough one. They drew the absolute toughest regional bid, in Los Angeles, California, to take on the UCLA Bruins, who are the number one overall seed in the whole tournament.
Southern Miss was of the first four teams left out of the tournament. Their thirteen-game win streak to finish out the regular season wasn’t enough to overshadow a poor Conference USA tournament showing, where they were eliminated in three games.
USM’s record of 36-17-1 and Ole Miss’s record of 36-20 shows just how much strength of schedule and RPI play a part in the seedings for these tournaments.
