Ole Miss linebacker Suntarine Perkins had a record-breaking day on Saturday when the Rebels took down Oklahoma 26-14 in front of a packed Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
The Raleigh native and former five-star prospect tallied 11 tackles, five of which resulted in a loss of yards, and four sacks, earning him this week’s SEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Perkins’ four sacks were the most by an individual Ole Miss defender since 1993 when Cassius Ware lived in the backfield in a matchup against Georgia.

In a somewhat anemic offensive outing on Saturday, the Rebels’ defense did its job in keeping the Sooners at bay. In total, Pete Golding’s group notched a whopping 10 sacks and 15 tackles for a loss. Perkins was the top contributor to the impressive feat.
On the year, Perkins is tied for the SEC lead and ranks fourth nationally at 8.5 sacks, and those 8.5 already tie him for ninth on the Ole Miss single-season list with Greg Hardy (2008) and Renard Brown (1995). In TFL, Perkins ranks second in the conference and is tied for fourth in the country, per the Ole Miss Athletics Department.
Next up for the Rebels is a road matchup against Arkansas on Saturday at 11 a.m. The game, which Ole Miss (6-2, 2-2 SEC) will more than likely have to win to keep playoff hopes alive, will be broadcast on ESPN and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
