Ole Miss incident, hearing rescheduled

OXFORD, Miss.- A man that was caught on tape being punched by a police officer failed to appear in court on Tuesday.

Chris Barnes was punched by a cop at an Ole Miss game. He was scheduled to appear at a hearing Tuesday morning in Lafayette County Justice Court, but could not make it due to other felony charges he had at the Lafayette County Circuit Court.

WTVA reports that an affidavit alleging simple assault was sworn out by New Albany police officer Brock White who was working that game against LSU. He says Barnes tried to hurt him by grabbing his shirt and pushing him.

White is now on administrative leave after the incident was caught on a cellphone camera and posted on the Internet.

Barnes attorney, David Pool, says the incident was provoked by another fan and Barnes was then punched by the officer and suffered a concussion, cuts and bruises.
