After suffering its first defeat of the season, the Ole Miss football team has dropped five spots to No. 20 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
Ole Miss (3-1, 0-1 SEC) opened conference play at Alabama on Saturday in head coach Lane Kiffin’s fourth attempt to oust former boss Nick Saban. However, the team fell short in its final campaign to defeat the college football juggernaut before the SEC dissembles the East and West divisions.
Though the Rebels held up defensively and put up enough points to hold a small 7-6 lead at halftime, the Crimson Tide came storming back to close out the weekend’s contest.
Alabama outscored Ole Miss 18-3 in the final two quarters of play to post a 24-10 victory. Ole Miss also struggled to move the ball effectively in the second half, raising questions about the offensive coaching staff’s play-calling.
The Rebels will return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a home battle versus conference for No. 13 LSU on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
