For the past 100 years, the University of Mississippi’s School of Business has been educating business leaders and for the past 18 years, the school has hosted the Banking Symposium bringing together state and national leaders in business.

Panels focused on cybersecurity, deposit and funding strategies, and mergers and acquisition.

Ken Cyree serves as Dean of the Business School Frank R. Day/Mississippi Bankers Association Chair Professor of Finance and said the event was critically important for students to be able to attend as they will soon be going into the profession.

“It really starts to sink in for them,” Cyree said. “They start to understand that the topics we are talking about in class really are important, whether it is regulations, mergers and acquisitions, growth or bank performance that we might be talking about, it really brings it to life. When they hear the professionals talk about it it goes in deeper.”

Among those speaking at the event were Governor Phil Bryant, Lord Michael Ashcroft, and Hank Watkins, President of Lloyds of America.

“We are trying to grow the business and professional organizations like banks and insurance opportunities for people in accounting, those professional services that these students will be able to graduate from the University of Mississippi, or other great universities and finds jobs right here at home,” said Governor Bryant.
