No. 6 Ole Miss had no issue swinging the bat in Wednesday’s midweek blowout of Alcorn State.
The Rebels, one day after shutting out Memphis on the road, set a new program record for runs scored in a game in a 29-1 routing of the Braves at Swayze Field. The previous benchmark of 28 runs in a single contest came against Illinois College on March 9, 1989.

Mike Bianco’s club got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning. From there, the Ole Miss offense did not have a scoreless frame in the shortened run-rule victory. The most explosive hitting was seen in the bottom of the fifth inning when nine Rebels reached home plate.
Shortstop Luke Cheng hit two home runs and mounted five RBI before suffering a face injury when fielding a hard-hit ground ball in the top of the sixth inning and exiting the game.
Center fielder Isaac Humphrey had four hits, one home run, and five RBI. Designated hitter Judd Utermark knocked two hits into play, smoked a home run to the seeing eye, and recorded four RBI. Freshman Ethan Surowiec had two hits, a homer, and four RBI.
On the hill, freshman right-handed pitcher Cade Townsend was credited with the win after striking out five batters and not giving up a run in four innings.
Next up for Ole Miss is a highly-anticipated weekend series against No. 5 Tennessee, whose roster features a couple of former Rebels. Left-handed ace Liam Doyle and first baseman Andrew Taylor will return to Oxford, this time as members of Tony Vitello’s club, to face off against their previous team.
Friday’s first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be aired on SEC Network+ and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
