A man in Houston, Mississippi has been taken into custody and charged with the murder of his wife.
68-year-old Fred Stevens was charged with second-degree murder after officers arrived at the couple’s home on April 22 and found the body of 64-year-old Childa Stevens.
Chickasaw County Sheriff Deputy Keith Roberson confirmed that police believe that Childa had been beaten to death. No motive for the murder was given.
When officers arrived on the scene on Hwy 41 in Okolona, Fred also has cuts on his upper-body and lower stomach area, but they determined the cuts to be self-inflicted. Fred was taken to a local hospital and he was taken into custody and officially charged on Tuesday after his release from the hospital.
Fred had his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, and due to the violent nature of the crime, he is now being held without bond.
The earliest that Stevens could face his preliminary hearing is May 17. If he hires an attorney that date could change.
