An investigation is underway by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) after a Ridgeland police officer shot a suspect at the Renaissance at Colony Park Tuesday.
Officials say Ridgeland police were conducting surveillance on a vehicle in the area that was reported stolen. When an officer approached the vehicle at the mall, the suspect drove towards the officer and struck him.
In response, the officer fired his weapon, striking the driver. The driver continued to flee the scene, striking other vehicles in the process. A chase commenced that eventually ended on Interstate 220.
Both the officer and unidentified suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries.
A multi-agency response to the incident included the Madison Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals, and Jackson Police Department . MBI agents are investigating the shooting and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
