Officer convicted of sex acts with an inmate

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss.- A former officer from Columbia has been convicted of sexual activity with an inmate. 

He is one of four perpetrators in the case, Justin Codey Herrington was convicted Wednesday night by a Lamar County jury. He was found guilty of unlawful sexual activity with an inmate in Lamar County.

He resigned from the Columbia Police Department in July of 2014.

The other officers involved were Vasan Josea Oatis, Richard Charles Pack, and Shawn Michael Williams. They have all been charged with having sexual relations with an inmate, with her consent.

The interactions happened sometime between October and November of 2013, and May 5 to June 30 of 2014.

Williams as fired on Aug. 5 2014 while Oatis and Pack resigned on the 27th of that month.

Oatis has plead guilty and been sentenced on the charges. Herrington will face sentencing on Aug. 30 in Pearl River County. He could face five years in jail and a fine of $5,000.
