JACKSON, MISS– On October 17, 1957, the film Jailhouse Rock starring Tupelo native Elvis Presley made its debut in Memphis.
The film was just one of the many dramatic musical performances of Presley’s career before he starred in a litany of other films including Viva Las Vegas, King Creole and Blue Hawaii.
Presley was born in Tupelo on January 8th, 1935. At the age of 11, he got his first guitar, because his Mama wasn’t buying him a gun. From there, his passion for music grew to become the icon he still is today, long after his death in August of 1977.
For nostalgia’s sake, here’s the original trailer to Jailhouse Rock.
