An Ocean Springs woman has been arrested for punching a police officer in the face during a Mardi Gras parade.
According to the Biloxi Police Department, 20-year-old Katelyn Michele Yeoman was taken into custody after she got violent with an officer during the city’s Gulf Coast Carnival Association Parade on Tuesday.
Officers were in the area of Howard Avenue and Hopkins Boulevard around 4 p.m. While trying to control the crowd, they saw Yeoman crossing between floats. After contact was made, Yeoman is said to have been uncooperative before punching an officer in the face with a closed fist.
“In order to avoid any potential accidents, officers made contact with those walking between floats,” a press release from BPD explained. “While doing so, contact was made with 20-year-old Katelyn Michele Yeoman of Ocean Springs, who also entered the parade route.”
Yeoman was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where she had her bond set at $50,000. She’s being charged with simple assault on a police officer.
