UPDATE 2/28/17, 11:05 a.m. – A cold front is expected to move into the state Wednesday morning, bringing with it severe weather.
According to the National Weather Service those north of Interstate-20 and east of Interstate-55 are expected to get hit the hardest.
“Mainly tomorrow [Wednesday} morning across the Jackson metro, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m, you could see some strong to possibly severe storms. You cannot rule out a tornado,” said Dan Bird with the National Weather Service.
2/27/17 – A severe weather system is expected to hit north Mississippi Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
Brad Bryant with the National Weather Service cautions of a front that could bring strong showers and severe thunderstorms.
“We’ll have to watch out for that [storm system] because tornadoes can’t be ruled out…Following that front, it’s going to turn cooler for a while,” said Bryant.
This year, north Mississippi has been spared from much of the severe weather. January saw disastrous storms tear through south Mississippi, as an EF-3 tornado devastated parts of Hattiesburg and Petal. That storm system caused severe damage to William Carey University and over 1,000 homes through the Pine Belt.
