The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for the majority of the state.
“Dangerously cold air will persist across the region through at
least the middle of the week,” said a statement from the National Weather Service. “Low temperatures will fall well
into the teens across much of the area during this time frame,
with high temperatures struggling to get above freezing.”
NWS added that although no formal statements have been issued, there is potential for hard freeze conditions to continue beyond Wednesday in the northern portion of Mississippi.
MEMA also cautioned that prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia and may harm pets and livestock. In addition, due to the freezing temperatures, exposed plumbing is in danger of being damaged.
The hard freeze warning will expire at noon on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
