Much colder air is moving into the region and due to the winter weather temperatures will begin to fall across the southwest area of Mississippi soon.
Once the sun sets temperatures will begin to fall and should drop below freezing by or before 8 p.m. over much of the Hard Freeze warned area, mainly along and north of the Interstate 10/12 corridor.
Temperatures will fall through the night and once clouds clear out overnight could continue to plummet into the lower 20s over a large chunk of southwest Mississippi.
Any location that still has snow or sleet on the ground could see lows approach the low 20s.
One significant concern is black ice. There will be quite a bit of residual moisture on the ground.
Once the temperatures fall below freezing bridges, overpasses, and any other elevated roadway with water on it will quickly begin to freeze.
As the night continues surface streets will even develop slick as temperatures drop into the mid-20s.
