After over two years of construction, the new performing arts center at Northwest Mississippi Community College is now complete.
The new 61,000-square-foot facility includes two levels of seating for approximately 1,200 individuals, with the costs of renovations costing around $30 million.
According to Director Kerry Golf, the college created the facility in an effort to benefit the northern portion of Mississippi.
“This is not just a campus impact, not just a Senatobia community impact, this is a northwest Mississippi state impact facility,” Golf explained.
Golf added that the college will be celebrating the center’s grand opening with a performance by Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth on Saturday, Feb. 18.
“She’s going to have a 90 minute concert which will feature many great Broadway hits, but also some pop culture hits,” Golf said. “She’s got a few albums out there that kind of play the whole gambit of genres including stuff that maybe Whitney Houston has sung, Dolly Parton has sung, some Broadway tunes that people are familiar with.”
Tickets for the performance are still available for purchase.
Other upcoming celebrity appearances at the new facility are set to include Jay Leno on March 3 and Former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson on March 7.
