Numbers rise as Mississippians register for new “no call” list

JACKSON, Miss.- So far more than 62,000 people have signed up for the Mississippi No Call Cellphone Registry.

Signups began on July 1. The registry prevents telemarketers from using cell phone numbers to solicit business.

However, It does take some time for the registry to go into effect after a user has signed up. Once a number is registered, it will take about 60 days before the calls will quit.

The No Call registry comes after the 2016 Legislative Session. Legislation was already applied to home telephone numbers, and this year law makers saw fit to add cell phones to that list.
