CANTON, Miss. – Nissan is adding 500 new jobs at its vehicle assembly plant in Canton.
The new hires are needed to support the production of the 2015 Nissan Murano crossover beginning later this fall. It will be the first Murano produced in the U.S., and the eighth model the auto maker produces at its Canton facility.
The positions will be filled through Nissan contractor Kelly Services. “Recruiting efforts and preparations for the start of Murano production this fall are underway,” said John Martin, Nissan Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing in a written release. “Currently employees are excited to add this vehicle to the list of outstanding cars and trucks built in Mississippi.”
The new jobs will push the combined number of Nissan and contract workers at the Canton plant to more than 6,000.
