TUPELO, Miss.–Parts of north Mississippi got a dusting of snow overnight that may not melt through the day today. But, the coldest air of the season so far may be on the way for Thursday morning, with negative 2 degree wind chills and 8 degrees when you wake the kids up for school.
“Temperatures actually warmed up between midnight and 3 a.m.,” said John Sirmon, keeping watch at the National Weather Service. “A cold front has since moved through and temperatures are on their way back down.”
You can expect a high in the upper 20s in north Mississippi. Central and south will not be nearly as cold, with a high of 47 in Jackson and over 50 in Hattiesburg and on the coast.
Thursday morning’s low of 8 is also drastically different than the forecast for central Mississippi (22 degrees) and south Mississippi (24).
THE INTERVIEW
A drastic warm-up is expected to start Friday. The north part of the state will still be the coldest.
“Friday night we’ll probably see a rain/snow mix and Saturday that’ll change to all rain,” said Sirmon. He said the high Saturday will be in the mid to upper 50s for the north part of the state. Central and south can expect 50s Friday and near 70 Saturday.
