JACKSON, Miss.–When a hard freeze warning is in effect, as part of the Ratepayers Bill of Rights, your gas or electricity cannot be shut off by the utility company. Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley released a statement Wednesday reminding utilities that customers are protected.
“Cold weather can be a very serious threat to your health if you have no heat in your home,” said Presley. “This rule is in place to protect the well-being of our citizens during times of extreme weather.”
But, that does not mean you don’t have to pay your bill. When it warms up, they can still cut you off.
