The auto industry in Mississippi will be affected by the coronavirus outbreak as Nissan and Toyota prepare to temporality halt production at their plants in the U.S.
The Nissan plant in Canton, which employs over 5,200 people, will suspend production from March 20-April 6. A company spokeswoman confirmed that all employees will be paid during the closure.
A Nissan news release states that “areas deemed business-essential will operate with enhanced safety measures.”
After originally announcing that its plants would close from March 23-24, Toyota has now announced that its facilities, including the plant in Blue Springs, will suspend operations from March 23-April 3.
According to the Daily Journal, the company has said that the 2,000 employees at the plant will be paid.
