Nissan Recalls 220K Cars for Faulty Hood that Could Pop Open While Driving

JACKSON, Miss.- Nissan is recalling 220,000 Nissan Altimas due to a faulty hood latch that could make your car’s hood fly open as you’re driving.

The recall covers just the 2013 model year. Some cars may be affected in Mississippi too, so if you drive this vehicle take it to the dealership to get checked out.

Nissan tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the problem is between an inner panel on the hood and the secondary-latch lever. The combination of debris and corrosion could cause the secondary latch lever to bind and remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed causing it to open unexpectedly while driving.

Dealerships will be instructed on how to fix the problem as well as clean and lubricate the latch joint as needed.

If significant corrosion is observed, the latch assembly will be replaced. Repairs will be made for free.

Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.
