The Nissan Foundation has announced that the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi and the Two Mississippi Museums will both receive a $50,000 grant in an effort to promote educating others about diverse cultures.
In 2023 alone, Nissan will award a total of $1.2 million to 39 nonprofits across the country that focus on sharing and celebrating diverse cultural perspectives, experiences, and voices in communities.
“The work our grantees do to educate their diverse audiences about different cultures, religions, and ethnicities is truly inspiring,” Ali Tonn, Nissan Foundation Executive Director, explained. “We’re impressed continually by the creative and moving ways our grantees engage audiences through events, exhibits, performances, and hands-on experiences.”
The recipients are based in areas surrounding Nissan facilities in California, Tennessee, Mississippi, Dallas/Ft. Worth (Texas), Michigan, New York City, and Atlanta.
“The experiences our grantees provide remind us all of our shared humanity,” Tonn added. “There is so much to learn from and about each other. Our grantees provide those entry points for exploring and celebrating our differences.”
According to Nissan, one $50,000 grant will be given to the Foundation for Mississippi History’s “Two Mississippi Museums School Visits Program,” which will ensure that every student in the state has an opportunity to visit the museums free of charge at least once during their K-12 education.
The second $50,000 will be awarded to the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi’s “Exploring the Soul of the Movement Education Workshops and Resources and Black History Month Free Admission Days.”
