CANTON, Miss. — Nissan in Canton announced Monday that they would be construing a new supplier park near their plant in Madison County. That is expected to support 800 new jobs; Nissan has already hired 400 to fill those positions since June 1. The new facility is a $50 million investment and will be Nissan’s first major supplier park in North America.
The new facility will allow Nissan to sequence parts t on site for the eight different cars they manufacture at their plant.
“Our anticipation is that we will bring them here to this location, sequence them into smaller configurations to go directly to the plant in some cases. In other cases suppliers will just move their processes to our site here in Canton so logistics costs for those trucking parts will just be from here, to across the street to our plant.” said Nissan Vice President for Total Delivered Cost, Dan Bednarzyk.
Bednarzyk says these groundbreaking efforts will bring more Nissan cars and trucks to the plant in Mississippi which will mean more Mississippi jobs. Additionally, he says supplier park will aid the Canton as a competitor.
