SCOTT COUNTY, Miss.–Exactly why a nine-year-old boy was driving a car that ran off the road and flipped while being followed a a Highway Patrol cruiser Friday night is still unclear to the public. Two children who were passengers in the car died when they were thrown out.
The wreck happened in rural Scott County, reports News Mississippi affiliate 98.3 The Groove. The car approached a High Patrol checkpoint on Hwy. 35, then apparently tried to avoid the check point, causing a patrolman to follow the vehicle.
The car turned over on a county road and a three-year-old boy and 13-year-old boy died at the scene. The county coroner has not released their names.
A 13-year-old girl and the driver were both seriously injured and taken to a Jackson hospital.
The two 13-year-olds were twins.
