OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss.–El Nino is on the increase and that may be good news for Mississippi for this hurricane season. That could mean fewer storms.
News Mississippi Meteorologist Tood Adams, working at our Gulf Coast bureau in Ocean Springs, said Thursday that the Climate Prediction Center issued their forecast Thursday.
“El Nino is a warming of the waters in the Pacidic Ocean,” said Adams. “The report issued today (Thursday) is of great interest because research indicates tropical activity should decrease during these warm water periods.”
Hurricane season begins in about three weeks, on June 1.
