  • Last night’s shooting of two Desoto County deputies purportedly escalated from a carjacking in Southaven. The suspect then drove to the Kroger near 1-55 and Stateline, where the confrontation with police commenced. The shooter was killed in the gunfire. He is believed to have been involved in at least three other robberies prior to last night’s shootout resulting in his death. The deputies are expected to recover fully.

 

  • That Raytheon plant what was to have been built in Meridian for the purpose of building fighter training jets, has been pre-empted. Raytheon has announced the are withdrawing from contention for the Air Force contract, owing to changes in their relationship with an Italian manufacturing partner.

 

  • Hattiesburg’s public transit system is back in business, even after all of the Hub City busses were damaged, with three of them ending up in a creek. But with the help of the Gulf Coast Transit Authority, the system is up and running for the many Hub City folks who rely on public transit to get to work.

 

  • House Bill 10-89 would require law enforcement to notify parents of a child’s arrest for DUI or a drug offense, if that child is under the age of 21. Introduced by Rep. Andy Gipson, the bill is supported by Flora mother, Lauren McGraw. Last year, her son Rivers committed suicide when he got a second DUI. Rivers was so distraught about the prospect of telling his mom, he took his life.

 

  • Canton utility workers have removed a ‘mystery substance’ that was clogging the water lines on Madison county’s Industrial Drive. There was speculation it might be cookie dough from an area company that makes wafers. But the GM of the DeBeukelaer corporation says…it wasn’t our dough.

 

  • After today, you’ll have just five full days to order from Amazon without that looming seven percent sales tax being added to your online order. You might want to do your Christmas shopping early.

 

  • January 26th is both, National Peanut Brittle Day and National Spouses Day. Kill two birds with one stone and buy some brittle for your S.O.
