Friday:
It’s the political event of the season! The Presidential inauguration of Republican victor, Donald J. Trump. Dubbed “Prezapalooza’ by some enthusiasts, more than a hundred Mississippians are packing their party gear and hopping a flight for DC. Among our state politicos primed for the festivities: State Treasurer Lynn Fitch, Chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party Joe Nosef, House Representative from the 77th district Andy Gipson, and of course, Governor Phil Bryant.
Weather reports for Washington, DC predict that the Trump inauguration may be the warmest on record, with temperatures expected to reach the 50s or low 60s. That record is currently held by the swearing-in of Ronald Reagan. At ‘the Gipper’s’ 1981 inauguration, the thermometer registered a balmy 55 degrees.
The week of inaugural events gets going tonight, with a concert at the Lincoln Memorial. Christened the ‘Make America Great Again Welcome Celebration’, boasting musical performances by Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, and Lee Greenwood, Broadway star and actor Jon Voight will also grace the stage, as will the Rockettes and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
And kudos to the marching band of Tupelo High School! Upon being invited to perform as part of the inaugural revelry, they raised more than a hundred thousand dollars to pay for the trek, with trombones held high and spirits to match!
