All eyes are on Mississippi today as you head to the polls to decide the final seat in the U.S. Senate.
Republican incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democratic challenger Mike Espy both received around 40% of the vote on November 6th to qualify for today’s runoff, and both candidates have been on the campaign trail ever since.
President Trump held two rallies for Hyde-Smith last night, while Espy has brought in high profile endorsements of his own. Former VP Joe Biden put his support behind the former congressman and Senator Cory Booker was in Mississippi on his behalf.
Following a lengthy election cycle, the votes will be tallied and a winner will be announced tonight, barring a recount.
After the polls close at 7 p.m., be sure to follow along as News Mississippi will have non-stop election coverage throughout the night.
We will have correspondents at the campaign parties for both Espy and Hyde-Smith to give you instant reactions and a behind the scenes look as precincts across the state begin to report their numbers.
When the candidates take the stage to give either a victory or concession speech, you’ll be able to see it live on our Facebook page, and you can follow us on Twitter to get updates throughout the night.
