JACKSON, Miss.–Don’t be tempted to drink and drive. Don’t carry your party to the car. That’s the message this New Year’s Eve from the Mississippi Highway Patrol and local law enforcement. They’ll be out with extra patrols and safety checkpoints.
The New Year’s holiday enforcement period begins Wednesday at 6 p.m., said Lt. Johnny Poulos, with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
It ends Thursday, Jan. 1, at midnight.
“Checkpoints will be conducted throughout the period to remove impaired drivers from the roadways. We are also asking everyone to preplan festivities by having designated drivers in place to ensure a joyous occasion and safe travel for all,” said Poulos in a news release.
