Reagan Spence, a junior at New Summit School in Jackson, was born with a Spina Bifida diagnosis. At 22 weeks gestation, Reagan’s family chose to have an experimental procedure in utero to help repair spinal damage. Reagan was one of the first 150 pre-term babies in the world to undergo gestational treatment. While the groundbreaking surgery has provided Reagen a healthier outcome, she still has complications related to her Spina Bifida.
Since 8-years-old, she has been in and out of a wheelchair, until things got worse this school year. Reagan and her family decided to have her foot amputated to end a ten year battle with an infection.
New Summit School in Jackson’s Excel Club jumped in and helped. Listen, and Mr. Noke, Reagan, and her mom talk to Rebecca Turner on Good Things about their journey and how New Summit stepped up to help in her time of need.
