Ridgeland, Miss.- New study shows David H. Nutt, a Ridgeland attorney, is the wealthiest Mississippian.
Nutt has a net worth of $880 million, according to Wealth-X, an international wealth intelligence firm.
Nutt, a graduate of Ole Miss, has represented clients in asbestos, drug, healthcare fraud and environmental litigation. In 1997, he was the primary financial backer in the landmark settlement against the major tobacco companies.
Mississippi was one of nine states which did not have a single billionaire.
Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Larry Ellison were the richest people in their home states of Washington, Nebraska and California.
