The New Hebron community is mourning the loss of its police chief’s grandson.
On Monday, Cruz Lewis was killed in an ATV accident. The seven-year-old was driving a side-by-side by himself when he crashed. Lewis, who was in the second grade at New Hebron Attendance Center, was the grandson of Chief George “Junior” Walker.
“It is times like these we are ONE FAMILY grieving the loss of a fine young boy,” an official statement from New Hebron officials posted on Facebook reads. “Our prayers are with his parents and brother Kirk, Callie and Mercer, and the entire family. Please lift them up over the next few days and weeks to come. Our Chief Walker has been with many of you during a time you’ve lost a loved one. Now is our time to stand by him.”
Funeral announcements for Lewis are expected to be announced soon. In the meantime, counselors are on-site at New Hebron Attendance Center helping students and staff get through the loss.
