Mississippi-based technology company C Spire has launched an initiative to ease the burden on parents looking to entrust their children with smart devices.
In the modern digital age, many parents desire access to cellular communication with their children but have fears over harmful material that can be accessed on the internet and social media.
After conducting a research study involving 400 Mississippi families, C Spire introduced Connect & Protect to give parents peace of mind when contemplating the prospects of giving their children a smartphone or device.
“Connect & Protect is really about giving parents the tools to be able to parent the way they want in a digital world and empower them with more controls for their kids when they’re online,” C Spire chief marketing officer Jennifer Anderson said on Good Things with Rebecca Turner. “We give kids no cellular data. That means no apps, no social media, no web browsing, no streaming videos over C Spire’s network.”
The Mississippi cellular provider also worked to eliminate loopholes that would grant children the ability to browse the internet or download harmful apps.
Other features in the kids’ phone plan include giving parents total access to Apple and Google location services, iMessage, FaceTime, and family-sharing data services. Those with Android devices will be able to use Samsung and Google location services and Bark Jr. parental control data.
“Our focus at C Spire is giving parents the right level of control, empowering them with how to use those parental controls to help monitor and restrict the content their children are looking at, track their children’s location, and really help keep them safe online at any age,” Anderson added.
Parents are encouraged to visit a local C Spire store to resolve any questions they may have before giving their children a smart device. A series of guides and resources to walk parents through the Connect & Protect cellular plan can be found here.
