NESHOBA COUNTY– The final day of the Neshoba County Fair means the big political speeches for office, and David McRae stepped to the podium with accusations ready for State Treasurer Lynn Fitch.
“It’s time that we put competent management of our money back in the state treasury department,” says McRae, “We’re tired of politicians wasting our money and telling us how great they are for doing it.”
McRae goes on to say that he’s appalled at how the state’s money has been mismanaged in the last four years by the treasurer’s office. McRae says questions need to be asked, like “why did Fitch spend so much money redecorating her office?” and “why did she wait for state papers to threaten to sue her before releasing property reports?”
State Treasurer Lynn Fitch took a different approach, saying that she wanted to focus on the positive points in Mississippi.
“Mississippi is a AA state,” says Fitch, “which is like your credit report saying how your credit is. We’re strong and solid. Because we’re good stewards of our dollars.”
Fitch’s platform was the positive things that have happened in Mississippi, such as the re-launch of the college savings program and $41 million dollars returned to the taxpayers through the unclaimed property report.
