PELAHATCHIE, Miss.–Tuesday was a rough day for neighbors in an area near I-20 and Hwy. 43 in Pelahatchie. An apparent shootout between residents there ended with a Rankin County deputy shooting and killing one of the offenders.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey told media the deputy did the right thing after the man pointed his gun at the deputy. The MBI is investigating.
They ID’d the dead man as William Buchanan Stingley, Jr., 40.
Bailey said his deputy was forced to shoot when he got to the scene and told Stingley to drop his gun. Instead, Stingley pointed the gun at the officer. That was the fatal mistake.
