COLUMBUS, Miss.- The Mississippi University for Women has taken a step toward rebuilding its athletics program and their first move is to find a new director.
University President Jim Borsig announced that they will start the search for a new athletic director during a convocation on Monday, reports the Commercial Dispatch.
Professor Emerita of Philosophy, Rita Hinton will be the interim faculty athletics representative as the search continues. She filled the same role in 2002 when the program was ending. The fall of the athletic department came after a tornado destroyed the primary sports venue.
Before the program ended MUW was apart of the Gulf South Conference and participated in several sports including, basketball, softball, volleyball, track and field, gymnastics, swimming, tennis and badminton.
After a study by a consulting firm the university made their decision.
