BENTON, Miss.–Found murdered about 1 p.m. Thursday, Ricky Saxton of Yazoo County may have been set up. That’s what some of his friends and family told News Mississippi. Saxton had been missing since about noon Wednesday and an army of family and friends had been looking for him.
In fact, many of those friends used spotlights, searching through the night in almost every part of the county, which is the state’s largest in square miles.
Sheriff Jacob Sheriff said Saxton was shot in the back of the head, execution style. Neighbors said they heard two shots.
The scenario that family gave News Mississippi: Someone called Saxton, 57, who bought and sold cars. They said they had a car for him to pick up. He was found behind a house on a rural county road in an area near Benton, about 50 ft. from his wrecker.
Worried family told News Mississippi before Saxton was found that his cell phone was not in service and that law enforcement couldn’t ping it.
“He was set up, definitely,” said one family friend.
If he was set up, no one was saying why. His family said Saxton would not have given anyone any trouble.
